Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. If you are a woman in a small business, I probably have walked and maybe even ran a mile in your shoes. I have worn the hat of businesswoman, career woman, and domestic goddess.
I am Mina Sedgman, I'm in my fifties, I am a daughter of Italian immigrants, a wife to a loving husband and mum to 2 dogs named Alby and Cooper. I am a small business mentor and coach. I love food, art, travel and "personal development". I am passionate about small business, probably more than is normal. I have over 30 years of owning or running small businesses. My initial studies were an economics and politics degree I didn't finish and photography and kinesiology diplomas. My career was in sales, retail, and real estate. My businesses were in retail and wholesale. I am currently completing my certification as a coach.
I grew into a businesswoman as I grew my businesses. I sold my latest business and I realized my identity was attached to my business. Who was I without my business? I was keen to make a difference. This led me on a quest to find what I truly wanted and how could I contribute. And if I went back into business, what problem did I want to solve this time around?
After seeking answers from business gurus, mentors, and coaches, I knew I didn't want to be a "guru", all-knowing, adored and detached. I followed business leaders, studied, volunteered and sat in cold conference rooms to learn about business models, marketing and strategies. I discovered I had an entrepreneurial mindset.
I went to business conferences interstate and overseas. I found myself being challenged emotionally and physically. I even fell from a trapeze to face my fear of heights. I got up and eventually tried again. A metaphor for life in business!
I was thrilled to shake Richard Branson hand at a Business Chicks event. I was privileged to meet one of our countries most popular prime ministers, Bob Hawke, I shared a story about my dad and we shed a tear together. I always had the gift to connect with almost anyone.
During this period of self-discovery and growth, what I did notice was the lack of women on the speaking circuit. Lots of online female business mentors and coaches, but a distinct lack of women speakers. One day my goal is to be an inspiring speaker.
Eventually, after looking for the answers outside of myself, I realized, what I was seeking, was seeking me. I already was a small business mentor, I had successfully run various businesses. So I decided to study coaching and solidify my knowledge and offer to mentor and coach women in business. I wanted to be a mentor and coach business women could trust and afford.
What I do best is to empower women in business. I know how isolating, stressful and demanding being in business can be for women. More importantly, I know what it's like to build businesses from virtually nothing.
While running and building businesses, I experienced losing friends along the way, strained family relationships and I often felt very alone. On top of all this, the wrong business "guru" crushed my self-esteem and I realized not to trust people in "authority" who lacked empathy. The wrong mentor or coach can derail a business.
Yet, getting clarity from a coach and guidance from a business mentor is hugely beneficial. I now am the mentor and coach I wish I had access to, to grow me and my business years ago. It's an honor to be a mentor and coach who empowers businesswomen.
I've had the pleasure of mentoring women in business since 2014. After our mentoring and coaching sessions, many women feel to feel empowered and they and their businesses thrive.

Want to know more about me?
I love small business and I am especially passionate about women in small business. I thrive on guiding talented authentic women to see their value and create a business and lifestyle they love.
Small business has been a big part of my life. I grew up in a milk bar and I still remember being blown away when we got our own red bubble gum machine. This modern miracle needed coins. I did what any young entrepreneur would do and stood out the front of the Milk Bar selling candy "fags" displayed in a tray with a ribbon around my neck, like the glamorous girls in the 1940's movies. My passion for business, marketing and sales started young.
I started my first "real" business in my early twenties with my mum, a bridal couture boutique in the days Princess Diana married. I was surrounded by taffeta, silks, pearls, and crystals. Our gorgeous brides designed their own gowns and we helped bring their dream dress into a reality. My mum Maria always amazed me how she could confidently cut into beautiful silks and make dreams come true, yet she had no idea how to charge for her amazing talent. I managed the "front of house" and systemized how we charged for the 'made to measure' gowns and this helped to make the business not only profitable but more enjoyable.
I then went on to excel in many sales and marketing roles and I always seemed to do really well whatever industry I was in. I loved serving people and solving problems. Whether I was selling or marketing products, services or big value items like homes, I learned people liked to buy from me.
My most successful business adventure was a gift store, Aqua Living Gifts which became a destination boutique gift store in Adelaide. We were featured in magazines and on TV.
I believe our growth and popularity was due to my passion, our innovation, strategic marketing and a customer service culture that had been lacking in retail. We loved our clients and our clients loved us!
During this period 7 gift stores opened in the local area, at one point two either side of us and many of them eventually closed. I was intrigued, why did we succeed while others failed? I believe I know why.
I sold my business and started mentoring and coaching woman in small businesses in 2014. I wanted to be able to make a difference to women in small business and prevent so many businesses closing. Most of all I wanted to support women in business bring their gifts to the world and create a business and lifestyle they loved as I did for my mum over 20 years ago.
I knew I wanted to be supported by other business women when I was in business and I still do. Coaching and supporting women in business has given me the opportunity to add value to my clients in a new and meaningful way.
